These are brilliant and spot-on. I had watched superficially and enjoyed it. But on further consideration, your take is absolutely right, and it’s kind of messed up. I really want these new Treks to be good, I want to enjoy them. There’s so much possibility and promise, just wish the writers and producers would do better. With a little more work, or thought, or development, this could have been a great short. I wanted to see a new, young, optimistic officer take on their first command and face new challenges – even if that first command ended in failure I wanted them to face it thoughtfully and with principal. Unfortunately we got a failed attempt at humour where everyone and everything was sold short – not to mention, as you point out, what we know about Tribbles.
Brilliant recap and pretty much nails my thoughts on the episode.
Thanks!

Well, I still enjoyed it, but yeah, it always sucks when Starfleet crew are portrayed as imcompetent.
